What is an oak lean-to?

A lean-to has a single-pitch (mono-pitch) roof that leans against the wall of a house, garage or outbuilding. It is one of the most efficient ways to add covered space, making the most of a boundary, a side return or a narrow strip of ground that a conventional dual-pitch building would leave unused — all with the warmth and longevity of solid oak.

Every lean-to is handcrafted from solid green oak using traditional pegged joinery, and securely tied back to the adjoining wall. We match the roof covering and detailing to the existing building so the lean-to looks like an original part of the property, not an afterthought.

Oak that weathers beautifully

Green oak needs no chemical treatment. Left natural it weathers gently to a silver-grey over the first few years, or it can be oiled to keep a warmer honey tone. Either way, an oak lean-to is virtually maintenance-free and only grows in character with age, which is why oak has been used for building in the South East for many hundreds of years.
