Open-Fronted Garage

Enclosed Garage

Garage with Log Store

An integrated firewood store under a catslide roof extension makes use of the side space without increasing the main footprint. This is one of our most popular configurations for rural properties with wood-burning stoves.

Single Bay Oak Garage Dimensions

All our oak garages are built to bespoke dimensions. The sizes below are typical starting points — we’ll adjust every measurement to suit your vehicle, your site, and your intended use.

Roof finishes include clay tiles, natural slate, or cedar shingles. All garages are made from high-grade green oak and can be supplied as part of a full design and build service.

Planning Permission for a 1 Bay Oak Garage

In many cases, a single bay oak garage falls under permitted development rights and won’t require a full planning application. To qualify, the garage generally must:

• Be single storey with a maximum eaves height of 2.5 metres
• Not exceed 4 metres in overall height (dual-pitch roof) or 3 metres (any other roof)
• Not be forward of the principal elevation of the house
• Not cover more than 50% of the total curtilage

If your property is in a conservation area, AONB, or near a listed building, additional restrictions may apply and planning permission could be required regardless of size. Our team can advise on your specific situation and manage the entire planning application process if needed.

Building Regulations

Detached garages under 30 square metres that are at least one metre from any boundary are generally exempt from building regulations, provided they are substantially non-combustible or more than one metre from any boundary. We’ll confirm exactly what applies to your project during our initial site visit.

How We Build Your Single Bay Oak Garage

1. Initial Consultation

We visit your site, discuss your requirements, and assess the practicalities — access, ground conditions, and any planning considerations. There’s no charge for this initial visit.

2. Bespoke Design

Our design team creates detailed plans tailored to your site and intended use. We’ll work through dimensions, configuration, door styles, and roof finishes until the design is exactly right.

3. Planning & Approvals

We confirm whether your garage falls under permitted development or requires a planning application. If an application is needed, we prepare and submit everything on your behalf.

4. Oak Frame Manufacture

Your oak frame is hand-crafted in our workshop using traditional mortise and tenon joinery. Each joint is individually cut and test-assembled before delivery.

5. Site Preparation & Foundations

Groundworks and foundations are prepared while your frame is being manufactured, keeping the build timeline efficient.

6. Frame Raising & Completion

The oak frame is delivered and erected on site — typically completed in one to two days for a single bay garage. Roofing, cladding, doors, and finishing works follow promptly.

Typical timeline: 6–10 weeks from sign-off to completion, depending on specification and site conditions.
